‘We Matter’

Julia Cameron’s new book, Write For Life, starts with this idea that our writing declares that we matter. When we write letters to others, we are declaring that others matter to us enough for us to share our words with them. Writing is a declaration of who we are and who we want to be.

While I have long been a fan of Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, I have only done an adapted version of her suggestions. Since I have revised my writing support network, I thought it might be meaningful to refer back to the well-known pro again. Her new book release coincided with my idea to start my Substack, so I thought it might be Lady Universe answering my question for direction on how to have a writing community without paying for it — just yet.

In the same vein, I will not charge for the next six weeks as I and my fellow creatives work together through the toolkit book. This is in hopes that a true writing community will grow.

In the first week and first chapter, I have confirmed that I write because I want to matter. I am not a very eloquent speaker, but I do write my emotions because that is how I express that others matter to me. Through writing, I feel a purpose. It’s not that I want to be a famous author — though who would turn that down. It’s not that I care about notoriety or money. Of course, those things are ideals. However, it is about having a sense that the words I share with others, here or there, matter.

What about you? Does opening 📖 the sunshine ☀️ into your heart ❤️ to tell the stories📚 you have been waiting to tell make you feel as if you and others matter?
