It has taken me a while to figure out what is the best way to put myself out there as a writer. For years I have written on a blog that is obviously in the public sphere as it is online, but I have never actively publicized it to draw readership. Of course, if people notice it in the bios of my personal social media accounts and chose to check out my writings there, then great. The key for me was to not know who or if anyone was actually reading my musings.

These days, I’m less afraid of adding my voice to the millions of murmurings out there.

Still, I have been hesitant on how much of myself, as an individual, I want to put into the public eye. Yet, after writing a few articles under a pseudonym, and discovering my writer persona, I feel that I am ready to start bringing some of the personalities together.

Therefore, I have decided to also create a Substack newsletter entitled OSH’s Letters.

Since I like to have different spaces for my varied writing topics, I will keep this space on Medium going to note my thoughts on the writing process as I continue to work on my novel, non-fiction projects, and whatever else comes up solely related to writing. I will also continue to guest post on other Medium spaces as long as they will allow me to contribute.

With Substack, I will try to take some of the common themes from my personal blog and put them in a letter form to the world at large. I have learned that my life experiences have given me a different worldview than others — not better, not worse, just different. I imagine that I must not be alone in how I think. More importantly, though, I’m very interested in understanding others, whether we agree or disagree. I love a conversation. I believe that through dialog we can learn to understand one another, others, and our world better. Therefore, after some research, I think that Substack will offer that space a bit more easily than Medium does.

So, if you enjoy following me here, I hope that you will subscribe — for free there. There is zero obligation to pay as I’m still figuring things out there. However, if you do want to pay for the cost of less than two grande size Starbucks lattes per month, I would love to chat with you on the topics of the letters each month.

Also, as a sort of kick-off community building activity, I’m going to be personally working through Julia Cameron’s Write For Life book over six weeks starting on February 1st. To join me and chat together as we work toward our writing goals, subscribe to OSH’s Letters and get access to the coffee chat community for free.

Don’t worry, I’ll still be here as well! 😁

So…do you have a Substack that you use to open 📖 the sunshine ☀️ into your heart ❤️ to tell the stories📚 you have waiting to be told?
